Who was Imre Bán?
Imre Bán was a literary historian, university lecturer, and doctor of literary studies. After receiving his degree in teaching Hungarian and French literature and culture, he studied in Paris and Venice. He became an assistant professor, and until his retirement he held the position of associate professor at Kossuth Lajos University in Debrecen. His scholarly work focused on fourteenth-century Hungarian poetry, the Renaissance, and the Baroque.
He was an active member of Hungarian academia, and through his research he contributed to Hungarian literary studies. His work lives on in many books, publications and monographs published in Hungary and abroad. Our goal when choosing a name for the organization was to pick a person who contributed to Hungarian culture and academia in the range of academic fields in which our students are involved.
