Frequently Asked Questions

Can I be a dorm resident while being a college member?
Although the name College may be a little misleading, membership in the college does not provide dormitory housing and it does not require you to move into a dorm. It is a community-building, talent-development program. However, being a member of the college can be an advantage when applying for university dorm accommodation.

Is it a problem if I don’t have a research project yet?
No problem — you can still apply. We will help you find a supervisor and you’re welcome to turn to us with questions. What matters is that you’re interested in a topic and motivated to develop a research project in the future.

Can only students from the Faculty of Economics apply to IKSz?
No — students from all faculties are welcome. Keep in mind, though, that most of our talks focus on economics-related topics, so apply with that in mind.

What happens if I can’t attend events?
We’re glad if you can join as many programs as possible, but missing a few events isn’t a problem. However, at graduation the Károly Ihrig College certificate is only awarded to those students who actively participated during their membership and who present a paper at the Scientific Student Conference (TDK).

How do I apply?
At the start of each semester we send a Neptun message announcing the application period. First we expect a motivation letter and a research plan by e-mail, then we’ll invite you for a short oral interview to get to know you. You will be notified of the admission result by e-mail afterwards.

Is there a minimum GPA to join?
We don’t set a strict minimum GPA, but your academic performance should reflect your diligence. Equally important are your motivation, openness, and willingness to take an active part in college life.

What kind of research plan do you expect? What should it include?
We’re not asking for a doctoral dissertation. The research plan should simply show what interests you and what questions you want to explore. A short description of the topic you’d like to pursue is enough.

How much time will the college take?
We run programs, lectures, or meetings about 2–3 times per month. In addition, each semester we organize a larger study trip and several smaller events. Most members find that the college doesn’t take time away from university life — it makes their time at university more structured, valuable, and memorable.

Will there be opportunities to join international programs?
Yes — we often organize foreign study trips for our more active members. These trips provide insight into the workings of international companies and organizations, or into life at foreign universities.

Will someone help me develop?
Of course. Experienced members mentor newcomers. Our faculty, PhD students, and external professionals regularly provide academic support.

How long is the application open?
Applications are usually open during the first three weeks of the semester. We publish the exact deadline via Neptun messages, on our social media, and on our website.

Can I apply together with a friend?
Yes — in fact we encourage it. Applying together makes the first steps more exciting and reassuring.
